Proposed Transmission Line
Overview
- The Yellowhead Project includes an approximately 110-kilometre-long, 230-kiloVolt (kV) transmission line from the Yellowhead Project site to an existing BC Hydro substation at 100 Mile House.
Location
- The Transmission Line is situated in the territory of the Secwépemc Nation (Secwepemcúĺecw), primarily within the territory of Simpcw First Nation (Simpcwúl̓ecw) and Tsq̓éscen̓ First Nation (Tsq̓escnem̓cúl̓ecw).
- As a dedicated transmission line, there will be no change to the way power is delivered to local communities today.
Clean, Renewable Energy
- The proposed transmission line will supply the Yellowhead Project with reliable, 98% renewable power.
- Following four years of discussion, BC Hydro determined that the existing substation at 100 Mile House is the only viable point of interconnection to supply the power required for the Yellowhead Project.
Minimizing Impacts
- Taseko has designed the preliminary transmission line route to reduce potential impacts to people, land and the environment including efforts to:
- Maximize the distance from homes and populated areas.
- Parallel or use existing disturbance, such as forestry cut blocks or resource Roads.
- Avoid or minimize impacts to critical habitat for species at risk, such as caribou and badger.
- Avoid or minimize impacts to wetlands, Agricultural Land Reserve areas, Old-Growth Management Areas and Provincial Parks.
- Avoid or minimize terrain constraints such as water bodies and steep slopes.
Preliminary Transmission Line Route
- Taseko will be responsible for designing, permitting and constructing the proposed transmission line from the Yellowhead Project Site to the point of interconnection.
- The proposed transmission line route is shown in the Initial Project Description.
- Taseko is undertaking additional studies and community engagement, which will help inform the final transmission line alignment.
Environmental Assessment Process
- The Environmental Assessment process will apply to both the Project site and offsite components of the Yellowhead Project, including the proposed transmission line.
- Multiple opportunities for community and stakeholder engagement will occur throughout the multi-year EA process.
